Lao Government's October 2026 Meeting Reviews Key Achievements and Priority Tasks

On the evening of 23 October 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Khampha Phimmasone, who also serves as deputy head of the Prime Minister's Office, briefed the press on the outcome of the government's regular October 2026 meeting. The session ran from the morning of 22 October to the evening of 23 October at the Office of the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone chaired the meeting. Deputy prime ministers and cabinet members attended in person. Provincial and local government heads joined by video link to hear the October report, comment on it, and weigh in on the priority plan for November 2026.
Agenda Items
Participants reviewed and discussed four major agenda items. The first item was approved in principle: the summary of October's key achievements and priority tasks, along with the plan for November 2026, and the implementation of the road fund in 2026 and the direction for the 2027 plan.
Overall Assessment of October
The meeting acknowledged that the international and regional environment remains complicated and difficult to predict. Even so, the government concentrated on carrying out its priority tasks and set measures, and it achieved several successes. The country kept its political stability firmly intact, and society remained largely calm and orderly. Local authorities worked with the central government to strengthen political foundations at the grassroots and in border and frontline areas.
Tackling Social Problems
Efforts to prevent and address social ills produced notable results during the month:
- 322 drug-related cases were resolved.
- 11 crackdowns on scam gangs were carried out.
- 136 firearms were recovered.
- Illegal mining was addressed in Vientiane Capital and Xiangkhouang Province, where authorities seized 50 excavators along with a number of tools and equipment used in the illegal operations.
