Champasak Lawmakers Aim to Lift Living Standards and Ease Poverty Step by Step

Over the past year, the National Assembly's Constituency 15 in Champasak Province has worked to strengthen its core duties. Its focus has been on improving the quality of lawmaking, deciding on major national issues, monitoring how laws are enforced, and responding to proposals from residents. Together, these efforts support socio-economic development and poverty reduction, with the goal of raising living standards across the province and moving people out of poverty gradually.
Arunsai Soun Narath, Chairman of the National Assembly delegation for Constituency 15 and Chairman of the Champasak Provincial People's Council, spoke to the media during the Second Ordinary Session of the Tenth National Assembly. He said the session carried особый weight because it considered key personnel appointments and important economic, social, and legal matters. Lawmakers reviewed these issues carefully and reached broad agreement.
He also pointed to the Assembly's growing role as the representative body of the people. Since the 12th Party Congress, the Party has strengthened its leadership within the legislature. He said this shows the Party's commitment to putting people first, echoing the guiding principle set out by the General Secretary and President that the people are the foundation and the countryside is the target.
Lawmaking and Public Input
One of the Assembly's main achievements has been the revision and drafting of laws with public participation. Lawmakers have sought residents' views on amendments and new legislation so that rules reflect everyday social relationships. The aim is to make the Party's leadership and state administration truly serve the people, with a legal system that is firm and effective. He said that even when public services are inconvenient or slow, the situation in Champasak is steadily improving.
Key Appointments at the Local Level
He noted that the Assembly's central job includes selecting senior officials, such as the Chairman of the National Assembly and the Prime Minister, who drive policies and resolutions toward their targets. He said local governments must give the same attention to these appointments to keep leadership and administration consistent.
Law Enforcement and Citizen Petitions
Monitoring compliance with the law and handling citizen petitions remain central priorities. Residents want to know what happens to their requests, how they will be resolved, and how they will be explained. Lawmakers say they must listen to people, consult them, and protect their rights and interests. During visits to communities, residents most often called for stronger enforcement of the law so that the state truly belongs to the people and serves them wholeheartedly and effectively.
Infrastructure Needs
Residents also raised infrastructure as a major concern, especially roads and other facilities that affect travel, trade, and investment. Although the government has already invested in development, he said quality must keep rising and coverage must expand so people can live, produce, trade, and access services more easily.
